Things that stand out in my mind after watching the first two weeks of college football:
-East Carolina is making Conference USA look better and better. The Pirates have been the story of the college football season thus far and really caught the country's attention after they destroyed West Virginia by three touchdowns. The Pirates are for real.
-The two most winninest programs in college football are very very bad. Michigan and Notre Dame face off this Saturday and will probably get the worst ratings of any game they've ever played. Michigan gets beat by Utah and then struggles against Miami (Oh) while Notre Dame scathes through their first game against SDSU who lost to D1-AA Cal Poly in week one. The Wolverines and the Irish are just plain boring to watch.
-The Big 12 is making a serious run at challenging the SEC as the best conference in 2008. The SEC still has the edge, but the Big 12 is closing the gap with the emergence of the Big 12 North.
-The ACC is AT-rocious (if you know me, you know why I typed it like that). Clemson, supposedly the best team in the conference looked pitaful against the Crimson Tide. I watched Georgia Tech beat Boston College this weekend and literally it was the worst game I may have ever seen. I have not seen more fumbles and confusion on a football field than what I saw Saturday...this conference is just plain miserable.
-This next month will start to weed out the good teams from the average teams. I like USC, Georgia, Florida and Missouri to emerge out of the pack as the four best teams in the land. I think that Ohio State, Oklahoma and LSU will all stumble once in the next 4 weeks.
