We all knew Derrick Rose was going to be the number 1 pick going into the 2008 NBA Draft, but nobody could have expected what happened to CDR and Joey. Dorsey ends up getting picked before CDR at 33 and after being excited to play alongside Greg Oden, he was shipped to Houston. CDR was on a plane during the draft because he would "be too nervous" to watch the draft. Well, he soon found out he was picked at #40 to the New Jersey Nets. This had to be one of the biggest surprises in the draft overall.
After watching team after team pass up on him, I just kept thinking to myself that CDR has always thrived when people have doubted him and now he is going to have to do it all over again. How does someone like Walter Sharpe (someone with problems off the court) get taken before a first team all american who absolutely thrives in the spotlight? Either way, everyone has to prove themselves in the NBA at one time or another and now CDR and Joey Dorsey will have their opportunity. I think that CDR has a very good chance of coming off the bench as a 7th man to play behind Vince Carter or alongside him depending on what lineup Lawrence Frank wants to play. It is unusual for a team to keep three rookies, however, the Nets are in total rebuilding mode so CDR will be given a fair chance to earn his spot.
Joey should fit in pretty nicely with a Western Conference team in Houston that was trying to get bigger inside. As we all know, the Western Conference is filled with tremendous big guys and having a defense specialist as Joey calls himself, is always nice to have. He will probably come off the bench with Carl Landry and they will spell Scola and Yao inside. His presence in the middle and ability to run the floor is going to be a good asset to the Rockets. They are happy to have him and he is happy to be there. Now he just needs to make sure he stays out of trouble.
Derrick Rose is going to be the center-fold of a historic franchise that is looking to build around the young point guard from Memphis. Rose is going to be a top 5 PG in the league for the next 10 plus years. What Paxson is going to do with his roster full of guards should be interesting and might shock some people with who he decides to keep and let go. I don't see any way that the Bulls do not make the playoffs with Rose in the lineup. He is a born winner and is going to make that team better whether he is scoring or not. He is one of those players that effects the game just by being on the floor.
CDR will wear #8. Joey will wear #15 and Derrick will wear #1. I wish all three of these former Tigers the best and there is no doubt in my mind they will all be successful.
Side Note: Xavier Henry, the #2 player in the 2009 class, has narrowed his college choices down to four.....MEMPHIS, Kansas, Ucla and Texas.

The reason CDR fell is because he refused to work out for those teams who wound up passing on him. Would you draft a player who doesn't want to be on your team?
Actually, CDR denied those claims that he refused to work out for them. I heard him on sports56 the day before the draft. That is false information and he will prove everyone wrong...AGAIN.
