Tayshawn Prince has enjoyed a rare fantasy in the six years that he has been in the NBA. He has somehow managed to play in the Conference finals or deeper every year he has been in the league. Not only that, but Prince has not missed a game in the last five seasons. Pretty amazing stuff when you think about it...now on to Detroit.
This team is just downright unbelievable. They have been doing it with the same core of guys, each year getting older and older and it just doesn't affect them. Chauncey Billups is one of the most underrated point guards of our generation and he is a phenominal leader.
Billups, known as "the captain of their ship," as Rip Hamilton says, played with more passion last night than we had seen in a while because of his nagging hamstring injury. Rasheed Wallace responded from a poor shooting night and came out and connected on 4 of 7 shots, including 2 from three. He finished with a solid 13 pts, 10 rebs. Antonio Mcdyess has to be atleast 138 years old and he continues to knock down that elbow jumper that gives teams fits. He made 7 of 12 shots and grabbed 8 boards. This is THE DETROIT PISTONS. Nobody is scoring 30 or 40, they are all scoring between 15-25 pts. Look at the starters lines: 14, 15, 13, 19, and 25 pts. Its the most balanced team in the NBA 1 through 5.
How long will this Detroit team be competative in the East (which is about to get a whole lot better with the additions of Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley)? Well, Chauncey Billups has found his replacement when he decides to retire, and that is the 6-5, 205 lb Rodney Stuckey out of Colin Cowherd's alma mater, Eastern Washington. Wanna know how good this guy is? He is so good that Detroit found themselves calling Isolation plays for the rookie Stuckey because he is that good with the ball in his hands. Detroit is smart. They knew they only needed to take 1 game in Boston because they don't lose at home and they know how brutal the C's have been playing on the road. There are 5 games left in this series, 3 in Detroit and 2 in Boston and guess what....both teams need to win 3 games to move onto the finals. So finally, the Celtics are going to find out what they are made of because they will be forced to win a game on the road should they want to have a chance to beat the Lakers for the NBA Championship.
My guess is, the Pistons will somehow someway get it done in this series and KG will again be denied a shot at the NBA title. I guess for all you Piston haters out there, just wait it out as long as you can because I don't think this "ship" will sail anytime soon...
