The Memphis Luck

Tonight is one of the most exciting nights of the year for Memphis Grizzlies fans. Maybe that is because we did not have one exciting night the entire NBA season except for getting Aaron Mckie in a marvelous trade from the Lakers.

The city is needing something, anything, to pick itself up from the dreaded night of April 7th 2008. The city of Memphis still has not gotten over that night and I'm not sure it ever will until the Tigers win a National Championship. Gosh, just thinking about it everytime makes me think how close my beloved Tigers were of claiming the school's first National Title. It makes me want to cry....but anyways, back to the Grizzlies....

The NBA draft lottery is tonight and most Griz fans are hoping that somehow someway we get a franchise changing player and the only way that is going to happen most likely is to draw the #1 or #2 pick. Last year was our best chance to get those picks, and we end up getting #4. So if you are a Griz fan, just ask yourself, "Why not us this year?" The answer is simply this...We are MEMPHIS!

The typical way to draft is to draft a player to fit your holes, well this Memphis team is made up of one big hole. Derrick Rose has to be the pick all Memphians want, and I am worried that our management will not feel the same. Yes, we drafted Mike Conley #4 last year and yes, it would seem like we are giving up on him, BUT Derrick Rose has the potential to be one of the best point guards to play the game. Most say he is a great mix between Deron Williams and Chris Paul and that is one scary combination. Just remember this, the Suns made a great decision in taking Jason Kidd even though they had Kevin Johnson, there is nothing wrong with admitting a player is better than the one they chose last year (sorry Mike Conley, you just aren't as good).

If the Griz do not get one of the top 2 picks, I will be fine if we draft a Brook Lopez or an Oj Mayo because really, what do we have to lose? But I swear to god if we take another foreigner, the entire city of Memphis will go home and say to themselves "I am never going to another game."

Do not let the city down Griz Management. Do not make ANOTHER wrong decision. Make a correct assessment of a player and draft based on talent and up-side, not position. Going off of the luck my city has had to deal with, we will probably get the #1 pick and draft DeAndre Jordan.

The Griz are going to draft Kevin Love. You LOVE that pick, Conley, Gay, Love, Mike Miller and oh yeah don't forget that we still have Brian Cardinal.
